The Town of Frederick is very balloon friendly. The Town has been hosting balloon rallies for the past several years. They started out with a balloon event in conjunction with their annual Miners Day celebration. The Town has expanded the balloon event and created Frederick In Flight. The focus of the event is balloons, pilots and crew along with other activities. These activities include parachutists, powered parachutists, helicopters, model aircraft flying, and an evening candlestick. This year they are including an evening concert venue.
The Town of Frederick has opened Centennial Park to balloon launches year-round so balloonists may enjoy the easy flying area that Frederick offers with very few red areas. The Town does have some requirements before you may launch from city property. You need to contact Michael Gianetti, who coordinates balloon activities with the Town, and obtain anIndemnification Agreement form that each pilot must complete and return to Michael along with a copy of your balloon insurance.
The Town allows balloon launches from the playing fields (the area covered in Buffalo Grass) but vehicles and equipment must stay off the irrigated grass areas of the park. The field to the south of the dirt service road by the playing fields is private property and may not be used by balloons (except during the Frederick In Flight event). You may tailgate in the park after your flight. Enjoy your champagne toast with your passengers but please be discreet with partying.
If you have any questions about flying from Frederick and would like to get the Indemnification Agreement and current red area map, please contact Michael Gianetti at 303-216-1990 or email@example.com
